Jackson survey funds

I saw your story about the survey of Jackson residents, and a comment that astutely points out that the job of mayor or alderman is to know the needs and wants of the town. Additionally, this information could be procured for free through interaction with residents.

It got me thinking about what could be accomplished with that money if it weren't earmarked for the survey. How many single parents working two jobs could have their kids in after-school sports programs through transportation provided by that money? How many improvements could be made to our parks? Landscaping and beautification? The possibilities are vast, and very much worth considering next time a survey is up for consideration.
