Letter to the Editor

Thanks from Safe House

On behalf of the board of directors, staff and volunteers of the Safe House for Women, I would like to thank you for your recent news and editorial coverage of the Oct. 22 “Vintage NOW 7” Fashion Show. The community support for this event was astounding, including many corporate and individual sponsors and donors, dozens of volunteers, and approximately 1,200 community members who attended the event. The net proceeds of this year’s show have exceeded $85,000, the entirety of which is committed to the construction of an expanded shelter to meet the emergency needs of those in our community affected by domestic violence or abuse.

We would also like to recognize Deb Maevers of Pastimes Antiques, who is the founder and driving force of the “Vintage NOW” fashion shows, and who has designated them to support the work of the Safe House since their inception. It is due to the inspiration and year-round work of Deb, her family, and her team that such an exciting and energizing social event simultaneously supports the worthy cause of combating domestic violence in Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area.

Rick Althaus, Cape Girardeau, President,
