Need for Electoral College

Coffelt is WRONG!

The “College” was established to balance the influence of states having high population to those having a low population in the presidential selection process.

Further, the U.S. is a constitutional republic not a pure democracy. If the “College” was abolished then about a half dozen eastern states (blue) and California would choose the president. The remaining states (red) would have no influence over the choice and would never be visited by the candidate (the Republican party would cease to exist).

Coffelt would be wise to read Mr. Gary Rust’s “An influence of those in political control of our nation” column from Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016.

The vast majority polled regarding the “College” are “useful idiots” and the polls are biased.

Fall of a Republic: A warning from Scottish historian Alexander Tyler 1787, regarding the fall of the Athenian republic:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess (bread and circuses) from the public treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship.”

Missouri selects its executive branch by popular vote, and we can see where the Democrats have gotten Missouri; a Republican Governor would pass “Right to Work” and eliminate the state income tax.
