2016 BIA Conference

The BIA of Missouri held their 12th Annual Statewide Conference for survivors and Family October 15th in Saint Charles, Mo at the Embassy Suites Conference Rooms. A few of the Cape Girardeau Brain Injury & Stroke Resource Group members attended the day long event. Topics such as: Chill, Thrill, Heal: Traumatic Brain Injury to Personal Trainer Featuring Logan Johnson, Survivor of Brain Injury, How To Tell Your Story by Mindy Rubelmann, CTRS, CBIS SSM Rehabilitation Hospital and Award Luncheon and Annual Meeting.

During the Award Luncheon two members from the Cape Girardeau Brain Injury & Stroke Resource Group were recognized. Ryan Benton received the Courageous Award. Ryan is a Ten Year Survivor of a TBI he had back in May of 2006. Ryan will gladly tell you his story and the importance of the Brain Injury Support Group he is a member of. He and his family struggle every day with the after effects of brain injury; but this does not hold Ryan down. Ryan is very outgoing and thanks God for his recovery. Elizabeth Schott received the Service Excellence Award in Community Service. Elizabeth is a Fifteen year survivor of an AVM (Arterial Veneous Malformation) and stroke. Elizabeth volunteers her time at different functions that the Brain Injury & Stroke Resource Group holds throughout the year. Such events include the 10% Tuesday at Gordonville Grill and the SEMO Dist Fair. Elizabeth tries to help educate others on the importance of Safety Helmets and of Brain Injuries themselves. Elizabeth is a great advocate to her cause.
