What are the major challenges facing Scott County government and what steps should be taken to address them?

The 911 system needs to be addressed and its cost to the county. Due to loss of landlines, which provides funding for the operation, I feel we need to merge and become a regional 911 system. This would be a savings for Scott county. Also, the jail is requiring updating and maintenance which we address on a need-to-be request. The present facility is fifteen years old.

What do you see as the county commission's role in economic development in Scott County?

I work continuously with city officials to bring new industry to Scott County. During my tenure I have been involved with Do It Best, Orgill and the new Pipestone company presently under construction. I also fill the role as mediator for the city and county officials. This has proven to be very successful thanks to everyone involved.

What in your background or education would help you serve as county commissioner?

I served fourteen years in the legislature which allowed me to make good friends and good connections in various state agencies. We in the county call on these agencies for assistance and advice when needed. I am also a small business owner who understands a budget. I'm a people person, taking care of their problems or negotiating a deal Is what I love to do.
