MerchEntice: 'Fall' for the '40s

Carve something, sip something and layer something. With the official debut of fall comes the shift of our focus onto the closing months of 2016. Undoubtedly, at this point, many of you have already picked up a few Christmas presents, consumed something pumpkin-flavored and worn something flannel. Many profess their undying love for these final few months for many reasons, and while I can certainly chime in and generously add to the list of reasons to cozy up with the new season, I can easily say the fashion beats out anything "pumpkin" for the top spot on my personal list.

For many, fall fashion means plaid and bulky, but if you make the mistake of thinking you have to swap your sundresses for hoodies, you'll miss out on the chance to be just as stylish as you are warm.

For instance, look around -- plaid is everywhere. It's like the official print of the harvest, but this year, instead of convincing yourself you need another plaid button-down to add to the three you bought last year (and the year before), switch it up and live less predictably by opting for a plaid skirt or wool trousers. While retailers have quenched your thirst for the plaid shirt monomania, it might not be as easy to track down its textile counterparts. But most local vintage retailers have shelves and shelves of once-beloved pelts and plushes with beautiful colors begging to be loved again. Some of my most-raved-about statement pieces come from yesteryear, and nothing further ensures a look that can't be copied than a one-of-kind piece from before you were born.
