FCA growing in Southeast Missouri

The Southern Missouri Fellowship of Christian Athletes is branching out, with Mike Litzelfelner becoming the organization's new representative for Southeast Missouri, working out of a new office in Cape Girardeau.

FCA is "an interdenominational Christian sports ministry aimed at athletes and coaches from teen leagues to professional teams, encouraging them to use the medium of athletics to minister to others," according to a recent Southeast Missourian article.

Litzelfelner was a member of the University of Missouri football team and was a basketball referee at the Division I level. His experience in athletics makes him the ideal man for the job, according to Southeast Missouri State football coach Tom Matukewicz.

"When I got hired, I asked who my FCA guy was," Matukewicz said. "The FCA has been very influential in my life and my wife's life. I grew up with the FCA, so I feel like that was a big deal for this region to get Mike Litz on board with the FCA and see where that leads us."

In addition to working with the Redhawks, Litzelfelner will serve in eight counties in Southeast Missouri: Cape Girardeau, Perry, Bollinger, Madison, Iron, Reynolds, Scott and Mississippi.

"The mission of the FCA is to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of Christian coaches and athletes," Litzelfelner said, "and the world is in desperate need of Christian leaders to stand up and influence."

We hope that Litzelfelner and everyone involved with FCA helps mold the younger generation of athletes into people who can positively influence our society.
