Three Saxony students named National Merit semi-finalists

Three students from Saxony Lutheran High School have been named National Merit Scholarship Competition Semi-Finalists. This distinction places them in the top 2 percent of high school seniors nationwide.

Seniors Emily Killen, Nathan Aufdenberg and Andrew Aufdenberg are three of over 1.6 million students in more than 22,000 high schools who entered the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The 16,000 Semifinalists included in this list are the highest-scoring entrants in each state and represent less than 1 percent of each state’s high school seniors.

The goal of the National Merit Scholarship program is to identify and hone academically talented U.S. high school students and encourage them to pursue rigorous college studies. In addition, the goal of this program is to encourage the pursuit of academic excellence at all levels of education.

“As principal, I am always proud when we have even one National Merit Semifinalist, but to have three is just incredible and a credit to the outstanding students and staff we have here at Saxony Lutheran High School!” – Mark Ruark, principal Saxony Lutheran High School.

Emily is the daughter of Mike and Lisa Killen. Nathan and Andrew are the sons of Mark and Wanda Aufdenberg.
