Area Celebrates 26th Annual Mississippi River Valley Scenic Drive

Bollinger County invites you to visit our beautiful area of rolling hills, pastoral farm scenes, and flowering trees for the 26th Annual Mississippi River Valley Scenic Drive on April 23-24. The events include outdoor recreation, food, history, dinosaurs, beautiful scenery, special sales, and lawnmower races. Brochures are available at the chamber office at 207 Mayfield Drive, Marble Hill, Missouri. Hours of events varies by venue.

Participants include:

Massey Log House The Massey Log House was built circa 1869. The four-pen log structure with full porches is a good example of "dog trot" and "v" notched log house. It is filled with many historical items of everyday life from the era. Open Saturday April 23 from 9am-3pm. Location: Marble Hill, MO

The Mayfield Cultural Center The Mayfield Smith Academy (1800-1903) and the Will Mayfield College (1904-1934) is now the Mayfield Cultural Center, "the Jewel of Bollinger County." Listed on the National Register of Historical Places. This unique historical landmark will be hosting free tours and exhibits of the school's history and their students. Whippoorwill Lake Location: Rt. 2, County Road 522 Five (5) miles south of Marble Hill. Drive by the 200 year old Lee Cabin. Swimming, trails, rustic cabins, sandy beaches, horseback riding, camping, fishing, and various other scheduled events. Come tour the campground. Info: 573-238-3995

Lawn Mower Races Location: Hwy 51 & 72 Patton Saddle Club. Lawn mower racing sponsored by the Patton Lions Club. Gate opens at 4pm. Entry fee $5.00 per vehicle. Racing starts at 6pm. Bollinger County Museum of Natural History Visit the Bollinger County Museum of Natural History "Where the Past Springs to Life" See Dinosaur fossils and models, Civil War, Native American, Ice Age, regional history exhibits, discover & play area with children's fossil dig, dinosaur puzzles, and more fun activities.

Mayfield Cultural Center

A new exhibit, featuring Tom Runnels art, will open April 23. Tom Runnels was a local artist, writer, and sculptor. Metal sculptures, paintings, and prints by Tom Runnels will be featured in this exhibit.

On Saturday, April 23 at 2:00 PM: Sandy Runnels and Jeanie Eddleman will be at the museum to speak with visitors about Tom Runnels life and work. A special PowerPoint presentation will be available on Saturday featuring information on Mr. Runnels. Check our facebook page to keep up with any changes or additions to the events of the weekend.

Iron Mountain Railway Location: Intersection of Hwys 61 & 25, Jackson Celebrating our 30th Anniversary! This historic Iron Mountain Railway will be open for stationary tours on Friday 10am-2pm, Saturday 10am-noon, and Sunday 1pm-3pm. Our Saturday 1-3:30pm excursion will be Junior Engineers and Conductors, where youngsters can learn all about working on the train. Come ride the train for a fun adventure. You can earn your own personalized engineer's hat if you pass the test. Great for kids of all ages. Also Operation Life Saver presentations. The train departs the station at 1pm and returns at 3pm

The Mustard Seed Boutique Location 205 Graham Street, Marble Hill, MO Special events, sales, and special dessert. Hours: Saturday, April 23 -10am-5pm.

Bollinger County Farmers Market Location: 200 Highway 34 at the edge of Marble Hill – behind the Bollinger County Co-op The market will open this year every Saturday from April 16 through the end of September, from 8 am to noon. Our vendors regularly offer for sale locally grown or made products such as: Goat milk soap, farm fresh eggs, fresh produce(in season), baked goods, chickens ,ducks, and other fowl, rabbits, plants, herbs, woodworking and craft items, homemade jams and jellies.
