Dieter Jedan of Cape Girardeau awarded Carthage Alumni Beacon Award

Dieter Jedan, Class of 1969 Carthage College graduate, will be honored with a Beacon Award on April 30, 2016.

Local resident and Carthage alumnus Dieter Jedan ‘69 will be awarded the 2016 Carthage Beacon Award on Saturday, April 30.

For centuries, beacons have served as a source of guidance and light to individuals all over the world. To celebrate this spirit of leadership, Carthage College Alumni Council grants the Beacon Award to recognize alumni who provide a light to their communities with a specific accomplishment, act of service, professional or personal achievement, event or program.

Dr. Jedan will receive a Beacon Award for:

In November 2014, Dieter Jedan was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of German. It is the highest honor Germany bestows for political, economic, social, and spiritual services.

As a political refugee in West Germany during the Cold War, Dr. Jedan is a strong supporter of international education who chaired the Department of Global Cultures and Languages at Southeast Missouri State University for 20 years.

Dieter will be among six Carthage alumni to receive the Carthage Beacon Award in April 2016.

Cost is $25 and includes dinner, ceremony and dessert buffet. Proceeds benefit the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
