Don't raise tax, cut expenses

What's up with this new "vehicle administration fee"? Is that the same as a use tax on vehicles or not? What's the rate on this? I guess the plan is to just keep everyone confused and maybe they won't vote. Government employees who have been given the "talk" will surely vote yes because it continues their job. The Chamber of Commerce made a public statement in support of the use tax. The chamber lost all credibility when it supported amnesty, Common Core and any tax increase on a ballot. As far as "leveling the playing field," should we ask Jackson to increase its tax to equal Cape's? This would level it between the two communities. Every tax increase just grows the government's budget. Why don't we take a pause on tax increases? Cutting costs within our city and county budgets would be a novel idea.

If our officials think there is going to be a shortfall, then cut back on expenses. There are citizens who have done research and have found ways to cut back. Will our city officials listen to them? This is our city, and residents should be treated with respect and not smug arrogance. We have previously voted down this use tax, and the county tax won by six votes. Everyone complains about how Washington, D.C., does not listen; well, our local officials are doing a poor job of listening, also.

Vote no on questions 1 and 2 on the Cape and Jackson ballots April 5.
