Cape lawyer rides on after major bike wreck

There's physical activity such as running, walking and bicycling. There's a whole other level when you enter endurance races like the four-day Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge.

Cape Girardeau lawyer Bryan Greaser recently participated in the race with his team of three other people. The trek includes 320 miles of terrain, going through pine ridges and jungles and caves and rivers. As Greaser told the Southeast Missourian, he was drawn to the race because he thought it would be epic.

What Greaser likely did not expect was a wreck on his bicycle, which included hitting ruts and a violent crash. He hit his head and dislocated his shoulder. Add in some bruises and a small fracture and you have the makings of significant pain.

Because of the location, he had no choice but to ride another 13 miles to rest and receive medical attention, all while dealing with a dislocated shoulder.

You can read more about Greaser in a story that appeared in this newspaper and at semissourian.com.

We are happy to report Greaser is safe. His story is one that will be told years from now to friends. It also underscores safety when participating in extreme exercise and working with teams, which Greaser did on this trip.

Greaser is still sore, but he has plans to participate in another race. We wish him much success and, more importantly, safety.
