Hundreds of children helped through Christian rock show

The Show Me Center was a sea of people Saturday evening for the Rock and Worship Road Show.

The Christian music extravaganza featured several top artists and bands, including the Newsboys, Jeremy Camp, Mandisa, Phil Wickham, Citizen Way, Danny Gokey, Audio Adrenaline and Family Force 5.

The concert featured some of the most popular songs in contemporary Christian music. With the number of performers the four-hour concert had something for everyone.

But the concert series is more than music. Sponsored by Compassion International, attendees had an opportunity to donate to Compassion through an offering and sponsor children. According to one organizer, 259 children were sponsored at the show.

It's wonderful to have entertainment options in town, but Saturday was much more. For Christians this was about a night of worshipping God and helping children in third-world countries experience hope through Jesus Christ.

It's also a reminder that we are blessed. Even the most challenging days in America can be wonderful compared to what many around the world face.

To all those who donated or sponsored children, thank you. You can learn more about Compassion at compassion.com.

More Christian music is on the way this fall when Lecrae performs at the SEMO District Fair.
