Don C. Bedell of Sikeston, Missouri, recently was reappointed by Gov. Jay Nixon to the Missouri Conservation Commission. The commission protects and manages fish, forest and wildlife resources in the state. Bedell's appointment for a term ending in July 2021 will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate. He is a Republican. Bedell, described in a news release as "a longtime conservationist," has been a member of the commission since 2009 and served a term as chairman. He owns businesses in Sikeston, Missouri, and Batesville, Arkansas, and founded the Health Facilities Management Corporation, a nursing-home management firm. He is a life sponsor in Ducks Unlimited, the release stated, and was the first diamond life sponsor in Missouri for the National Wild Turkey Federation. Bedell also has been a sustaining member of the Conservation Federation of Missouri since 1988 and a life member of Quail Unlimited and Safari Club International. Bedell was inducted into the International Order of St. Hubertus, the release stated, an exclusive worldwide organization for hunters who are wildlife conservationists and respectful of traditional hunting ethics and practices. During Bedell's past six years on the commission, the state has seen record harvests of wildlife and increased participation in outdoor conservation activities, particularly among youth, minority and disabled populations, the release stated.
