Semoball awards less than a week away

We are less than one week away from the Semoball Awards.

The second annual event that recognizes the best in high school sports from 57 high schools will be held Saturday at the River Campus in Cape Girardeau.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with heavy hors d'oeuvres, and the awards show begins at 7 p.m.

The Semoball Awards is a special event with a red carpet photo opportunity, a live Red Carpet Radio Show (6 p.m.), an ice sculpture, great food, first-class awards show and a message from gold medalist and softball phenom Jennie Finch.

Finch has an inspiring story. She grew up wanting to play baseball for the Dodgers. While the road she took did not lead to playing in Chavez Ravine, she did find a successful softball career in college, at the Olympics and as a professional for the Chicago Bandits.

Today she holds softball camps and speaks across the country, encouraging young people to work hard and pursue dreams.

A handful of tickets are on sale at semoball.com/awards, and we encourage you to secure yours today, as the event will be sold out quickly.

Congratulations to all the finalists.
