Break a leg; musicals set for this weekend

Get ready for music and theater. Two Cape Girardeau high schools will perform musicals this weekend.

Notre Dame Regional High School will present "Guys and Dolls."

This is the 50th anniversary of the all-school musical at Notre Dame, though theatrical productions have taken place at the school for all 90 years.

The 7 p.m. performances will be tonight through Sunday at the school. Tickets are available online at notredamehighschool.org. Or you can call 335-6772, ext. 311.

Cape Girardeau Central High School has its own show hitting the stage this week.

The cast of students will perform "God's Favorite" at 7 tonight, Friday and Saturday at the Kinder Performance Hall.

The play is based on the story of Job from the Bible.

"Along with the story of Job, there's also a bit of an underlying story of the prodigal son, as well," director Kimberly Wibbenmeyer said.

Theatrical productions take hours to produce. For students, this is in addition to schoolwork and other extracurricular activities in which they are involved. For their instructors, it's much planning and teaching in addition to other responsibilities.

We salute the students and all those involved and hope you will attend the performances this week.
