Comic con fever spreading; event comes next month

Somebody fire up the Bat Signal. The 10th Annual Cape Comic Con is less than a month away.

The local comic con has become a great event for Cape Girardeau. This year promises to be the best yet.

The event, started by comic enthusiast Ken Murphy, has grown year after year. Last year, the event topped 1,600 attendees. More are likely to attend this year.

In addition to this being the 10th anniversary, the local Comic Con is teaming up with Marvel Comics to help promote the event.

Together with rustmedia, the organizers brought on Marvel comics artist Greg Land to draw an exclusive comic book cover that is specific to Cape Girardeau. Land drew the Avengers in action poses with the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in the background. Posters will be available for sale at the event. Land will sign autographs and mingle with fans.

Murphy calls the Marvel involvement "the largest thing we've ever had for our show. It's for sure our most ambitious project."

There will be much more to the convention than Land, however. The costume contest is always a big draw. And dozens of vendors will be there to sell comic books and other merchandise. It's sure to be a hit.

The comic con will be April 17-19 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau.

Make sure to make plans now to visit the heroes in April.
