Letter to the Editor

Wybert is unselfish

Editor's note: The following letter was written in response to a story published March 13 that stated Alice Wybert had been charged with two counts of animal abuse. A follow-up story is published in today's edition with Safe Harbor's side of the story.

I was disgusted after I read the article on Alice Wybert of Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary, which is a no-kill animal shelter.

No one pointed out all the good things this unselfish woman has done to care and find homes for these abandoned cats. Where would they be if she did not give them shelter? Even more important, what will happen to these cats if this shelter is closed?

She has done the best she can with the limited funds her organization gets from donations.

Instead of criticizing her, why not help her organization with donations or volunteer your time?

The Safe Harbor Thrift Store is located in Jackson, and, with spring upon us, this would be a good time to clean out closets and miscellaneous items you no longer need and donate these to the store. I know this organization could use all the help they can get at this time.

The City of Cape could easily help fund this organization by utilizing some of the casino money. After all, we now have a dog park for the community. Why not do something to help this organization, which in turn helps our community in caring for our unwanted animals?
