Pancake, chili days help support charitable causes

Good food, fellowship and support for charities are what two events this month will provide.

On Wednesday, the annual Pancake Day sponsored by the Lions Club for Community Service will be held at the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. Each year the club serves thousands of pancakes, sausages and drinks to the community with proceeds to benefit charities.

Food will be served from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Tickets are $5 and include pancakes, milk and coffee. Also available for sale are juice, water and sausages.

This will be the 77th annual pancake event, which is the longest continuous pancake event of its kind in the U.S.

The Noon Optimist Annual Chili Day was rescheduled from its previous date last week because of winter weather. The new date is March 25. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Arena Building.

Cost of admission is $8 for adults and $3 for children. This includes chili, a drink, hot dog and dessert.

The Lions Club and Noon Optimist Clubs are two of the many organizations locally that promote service and raise money for charitable causes. The pancake and chili days traditionally have been well attended.

Thank you to both organizations and their members who volunteer their time.

We hope you can attend both of these functions.
