Southeast theater and dance department's 'The King & I'

Performances of a classic musical began Wednesday night at the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus.

"The King and I," by Rogers & Hammerstein, is being presented by the Southeast Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance.

The story is based on the novel "Anna and the King of Siam" and set in 1862 Siam. An English widow serves as tutor for the king's son. The widow and king, though widely different, come to know and respect one another.

The remaining performances will be at 7:30 tonight and Saturday, 8 p.m. Friday, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Bedell Performance Hall.

Tickets are $3 for Southeast students and $17 and $20 for the public. Tickets may be purchased through the River Campus box office.

This is one of several university events this weekend. Before Friday's performance, the dedication of the Ken and Jeanine Dobbins River Campus Center will be held, and later the Friends of the University Awards will be presented to Stan and Debbie Crader and Ken and Jeanine Dobbins.

We encourage you to check out the "King and I."
