Editorial: High school students impress with their art at River Campus

If you haven't checked out the High School Art Exhibition at the Crisp Museum on the River Campus yet, we encourage you to do so. The exhibition will remain on display through March 8; hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The art produced by our area high school students showcases some extraordinary talent.

Art educators at the high school level were invited to submit 15 of their 11th- and 12th-grade students' artwork. This year, 350 artworks were submitted and 100 were chosen to display. The Best of Show winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University as an art major.

Art does not come easy. It takes hours upon hours of practice to be able to produce some of the pieces by these students. It also takes a great deal of attention to detail, as well as having a vision of what the piece should become at the end.

Congratulations to all of the students who have put their hearts into the pieces at the River Campus. We are inspired by your creativity and craft.
