Seyer recognized with annual Dingeldein Award

Cape Girardeau has become more of an art hub over the years. Between music events, to sculptures, paintings, photos and other displays, there's plenty to appreciate.

This is possible because of many people, and each year the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri recognizes one individual for his or her efforts with the Otto F. Dingeldein Award and another individual or group with the Friend of the Arts Award.

The 2015 recipient of the Dingeldein Award is Brenda S. Seyer, a local artist and art teacher who has experience with several forms of art, including plein-air painting, batik, watercolor and drawing.

The Otto F. Dingeldein Award began in 1975 and goes to an individual who has made artistic achievements that have benefited the community.

Seyer, as reported by the Southeast Missourian, told those gathered that she is one of many who contribute to the art scene. She said she enjoys staying busy with projects and introducing children to art, which she called a "universal language."

573 Magazine was recognized with the Friend of the Arts Award for the publication's efforts in getting the organization's message out.

Congratulations to Seyer and 573 Magazine for being recognized, and thanks to all those in the community who have made contributions to the arts community.
