Awards given to Jackson leaders at chamber banquet

Local Chambers of Commerce make it a priority to help recognize leaders in the community.

On Friday it was the Jackson Chamber that held its annual dinner and awards ceremony.

Awards recipients included:

* Terri Tomlin, Jackson School Board president, who received the R.A. Fulenwider Meritorious Community Service Award. The recognition goes to an individual who has made contributions to the community.

* Wings, Etc. was the Business of the Year.

* Custom Cut Fabrication was selected for Industry of the Year.

* Kelly Darby of Modern Woodmen of America received the Ambassador of the Year.

* Siemer's Best Brands Plus Appliance was recognized as Small Business of the Year.

New officers were installed at the banquet, including Charlie Glueck, who is the organization's president for the year.

Outgoing president Connie Werner said the Jackson Chamber has grown under the current executive director, Brian Gerau, by more than 200 members since 2008.

Community involvement is vital to the local quality of life. Many individuals take time to volunteer through the schools, charities, industry organizations and other worthy endeavors. Yes, there is paid staff for some of these areas. But volunteers are required to do these things well.

We congratulate the Jackson Chamber award winners and offer a thank-you to all those who volunteer through the chamber and other groups for their community.
