Sounds of the Season Draws Sellout Crowd

Andrew Moore, MD, of the Southeast Cancer Center sings "Battle Hymn of the Republic" in honor of America's veterans at the Sounds of the Season holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Cape Bible Chapel.

SoutheastHEALTH Foundation's 19th annual Sounds of the Season benefit concert drew a sellout crowd on Sunday, Dec. 7, at the Cape Bible Chapel.

"We had to reuse tickets at the door just before the show started," says the Foundation's Sam Duncan. In all, more than 800 tickets were sold. Foundation board member and Southeast Ambassador Bob Matthews proclaimed Sounds of the Season as the "best one ever."

The concert annually raises money for the Southeast Cancer Center Patient Experience Fund, which aids cancer patients.

KFVS12 Breakfast show anchors Jim Burns and Crystal Britt served as emcees for the concert, which included performances by the nationally known, country music band Brothers Walker as well as a number of other great regional talent.

Performers included dancers from the Academy of Dance Arts; Sikeston, Mo., soprano Patti McPheeters; pianist Shane Steck, vocalist Lauren Powers and the Jerry Ford Orchestra. The Jackson High School Hand Bell Choir provided the prelude for the holiday show.

Andrew Moore, MD, a hematologist/oncologist at Southeast Cancer Center, was one of the featured performers. Accompanied by the Jerry Ford Orchestra, Dr. Moore sang the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" as a tribute to America's veterans. His stirring rendition drew a standing ovation.

Later in the show, Dr. Moore also performed the heartwarming Christmas tune, "I Believe," to the delight of the crowd.

Even Santa made an appearance, greeting children in the church lobby after the conclusion of the show.

If you missed the concert, you can catch it on television. KFVS and WQWQ will show the entire concert during the holiday season. It will air on KFVS on Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 10:35 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 25, at 5 and 6 a.m. WQWQ will show the festive event on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 9 p.m. and on Thursday, Dec. 25, at 7 a.m.
