Year-end giving can help local not-for-profits

Throughout the year we use this space to applaud different organizations for their efforts. Many of these are not-for-profit groups that depend on donations to keep their doors open and help others.

The Christmas season can bring out goodwill and generosity, and we look for this generosity to continue this holiday season.

Now is also an opportunity to help individuals and businesses through charitable giving.

There are many worthwhile endeavors, including Salvation Army, Toybox, churches, schools and universities, Operation Christmas Child, and the list goes on.

One entity that has tax benefits for giving at this time is the Discovery Playhouse. It was awarded tax credits for those who donate, potentially returning up to the 90 percent of a donation back in the form of a tax credit. The Neighborhood Assistance Program credit is available only for a limited time. For more information, contact Pansy Glenn at 335-7529 or pansy@discoveryplayhouse.org.

There is much to celebrate this month before the New Year, and we hope you will consider charitable giving and help important organizations carry out their mission to help others.
