Press Release:

On Oct. 21st, 2014 at 6:30pm, the Cape County Tea Party (CCTP) will hold its open monthly meeting at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The meeting is called the Third Tuesday Tea Time and is held on the Third Tuesday of each month to continue the work to complete our Mission.

Candidate / Election Forum:

At this month's meeting, CCTP will hold a Candidate Forum for contested races on the Nov. 4th ballot. Each candidate will be given a few minutes to explain why they are the best option to fill the office they are seeking. A prepared question may be given to the candidates to answer as well.

Candidates who have confirmed their plans to attend are:

- Pat Wissman

- Clint Tracy

- Gary Gaines

- Greg Tlapek

- Kathy Swan

- Doug Enyart

Arrive early to meet your candidates in person.

Additionally, two citizens will take a few minutes to present their views on the Proposition to Extend the City of Cape Girardeau Fire Tax that also appears on the ballot.

Thomas Jefferson said, "I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."

Come out on Tuesday and inform your discretion on how best to vote on November 4th.

Please Vote "NO" on the 21-Year Fire Sales Tax Extension Proposition because:

* A "NO" vote still supports our Fire Department with $1.2 million yearly; $42 million through 2035, from the PERMANENT portion of the FIRE SALES TAX passed in 2004

* Expire means "EXPIRE" - Citizens voted in 2004 for THIS portion of the Sales Tax to expire in 2014. Slow economic times call for a tax Cut!

* Our population has grown by less than 9% (from 35,686 to 38,816) over the last 10 years; however, our CITY BUDGET has GROWN over 55% (from $45.8m to $71.0m)

* Why wait until 2035? Please LOWER TAXES now. Vote "NO" THIS Nov 4th against a 21-year tax Fire Sales Tax extension Proposition.

* Voters said "NO" to three recent tax increases. When will Government get the message? Where is the limited and fiscally Responsible Government? Government ALWAYS wants MORE OF YOUR MONEY TO SPEND!
