Day on the River could bring big crowd Saturday

Living next to the Mississippi River has its advantages. Among them are opportunities like the Missouri Department of Conservation Day on the River event to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

This is the fifth event the department has held, and there will be many activities for those of all ages to enjoy. Among the festivities are a chance to look at different species of fish and learn about them from the conservation staff. There will be tug-boat rides on a first-come, first served basis. Want to learn how to fry up Asian carp? There will be demonstrations to show you.

Last year about 3,000 people attended Day on the River, and organizers say turnout could be more this year if weather is good.

Don't forget about the Conservation and Nature Center on the north side of town. The center is excellent, with so many things to see and learn about.

There's a lot going on this weekend, and Day on the River is a great event to consider, and the conservation center offers more opportunities throughout the year.
