Nixon to visit Central Junior High today
Thursday, September 18, 2014
Gov. Jay Nixon will visit Central Junior High School, 205 Caruthers Ave. in Cape Girardeau, at 1:45 p.m. today. Nixon will meet with students to discuss the importance of investing in public education. His appearance follows a successful effort to defeat a package of tax breaks in the legislature last week. Nixon announced last week the release of $143.6 million for local school districts and higher education institutions. In addition, local schools will be spared an additional $93 million cut to their Proposition C sales tax revenue that would have resulted from the tax breaks becoming law.
