Scouts Kick Off Annual Popcorn Sale

Scouts Kick Off Annual Popcorn Sale

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Scouts in the Greater St. Louis Area Council, Boy Scouts of America will be popping up all over neighborhoods this month as they kick off their popcorn fundraiser. As Girl Scouts are known for their cookie sales, the annual popcorn sale is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Boy Scouts.

More than 70 percent of the proceeds from the popcorn sale benefit local Scouting programs. Proceeds from the sale help Scouts earn funds for camp, equipment, and activities such as Pinewood Derbies. For the council, it means help with operating its four camp properties, training for youth and adult leaders and providing assistance to youth who could otherwise not participate in Scouting.

In addition to earning their own way, Scouts also benefit from learning how to set and work towards goals, how to interact with people, and gain practice in public speaking skills.

The Greater St. Louis Area Council, which includes St. Louis city and county, 27 counties in eastern Missouri and 10 counties in southern Illinois, had more than 44,000 youth and 12,000 adult volunteers participate in Scouting programs last year.
