Becoming informed

"One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors." --Plato

When I first heard that quote, I thought, how true! We have so many problems in this country that seem fixable with plain old common sense. The people in elected positions, both locally and nationally, at times, are unable to apply common sense and do what's right.

I am urging people to stand up and get involved in our community. There are several groups in this local area that are informing themselves in order to help elected officials make common sense decisions within the confines of our constitution. Some of the issues being researched are: education, tax, fiscal responsibility, fathers' rights, and a group that trains citizens to self govern.

For instance, the Cape County Tea Party's next meeting will have a speaker on the subject of "smart meters." She actually is the only person in Missouri to get her city, Columbia, Missouri, to go back to analog meters. Quite a feat for a young working mother, with more knowledge than her elected officials. I have heard her speak and was very impressed with her extensive knowledge of smart meters and the effects of these meters on your health and home.

Please plan to attend this public meeting Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Cape Public Library at 6:30 p.m., so that you can make an informed decision as to whether you want a smart meter on your house.
