Results for judge race could result in recount

Should a recount be requested in the Circuit 32, Division I judge race, it would qualify under state statutes. Missouri statute allows a recount for candidates who filed with the secretary of state's office that were defeated by less than one-half of one percent, but only if they file a request with that office. Unofficial election results Tuesday showed candidate Michael Gardner brought in the most votes in the three-way race with 7,357, or 35.328 percent. Trae Bertrand followed in a close second with 7,287, or 34.992 percent, placing him in the narrow gap that allows for a recount. The third-place finisher, Allen Moss, had 6,181 votes, or 29.681 percent. But Laura Swinford, a spokeswoman for the Secretary of State's office, said such a request cannot be submitted until the election results are certified. Results will be certified by Aug. 28 in accordance with state law.
