Fun awaits at annual Southeast Missourian Jr. Park & Rec day

The weather this summer has been spectacular. The heat and humidity that typically greets us this time of year have been mild. This reprieve from heat has been perfect for enjoying outdoor activities.

On Friday there will be plenty of activities taking place at the Osage Community Centre for the Southeast Missourian Jr. Park & Rec Day.

The annual event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and includes an obstacle course, petting zoo, ice cream, water activities, games, prizes, crafts and more. Children will be admitted free to Cape Splash from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday after the day's events with paid adult admission.

Tracker, the Southeast Missourian Jr. mascot, will again ask for donations to the Humane Society. Donations of dog or cat food (Purina is preferred), dog or cat treats or monetary support will make you eligible for nice prizes, including tickets to the Magic House, Missouri Botanical Gardens or a St. Louis Cardinals game.

Park & Rec Day is sponsored by the Southeast Missourian Jr., P&G and the city of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department.

This will be a busy day with plenty of fun things to do. If you have children, we encourage you to make some time to join in.
