Cape house fire determined accidental

About 9:30 p.m. Saturday, a house fire was reported at 2026 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau. The fire report stated firefighters at the scene found light to moderate smoke coming from the garage. The resident of the home, Bruce Blankenship, smelled smoke and called 911. It was reported the homeowner had already extinguished the bulk of the fire before firefighters arrived. The fire was determined accidental due to cooking in the garage area, and no injuries were reported, according to the report.
