Vote ‘no' on tax increases

On Aug. 5, state and county voters will be asked to add two more taxes to the ever-increasing list.

Proposition K is a new tax, giving control of up to $3 million to an unelected board to dole out to selected people -- many who made bad life choices. This tax has no oversight. Using children to add the emotion factor, you are being told, "If they tax you enough, they can fix families, stop dropouts, and stop teen pregnancy." Nonsense. Social workers in Missouri schools refer children to existing programs making this program redundant.

Amendment 7, the MoDOT Sales Tax increase, brings in more than needed over the next 10 years. Recently, instead of building roads, MoDOT spent on Lighted Billboards across Missouri telling you that "MoDOT Cares;" "Barrel Bob" is towed and reassembled at construction sites across Missouri; and, eight "Repaving The Road Here Fall 2014" signs waste your entire year of taxes paid. Maybe MoDOT should get out of the advertising business with our tax dollars. The Legislature claims this tax will spur job growth. Is MoDOT in the job growth business?

Low taxes and controlled spending expand the economy. Tax and spend fails. Instead of adding more tax, bureaucracy and out-of-control spending, decrease taxes and spur the economy.

Vote "No" on Proposition K and Amendment 7.
