Whitener Inducted Into Phi Beta Kappa

Jordan Whitener

Jordan Whitener is a 2014 Phi Beta Kappa initiate at Truman State University. Whitener, a senior math and computer science double major of Jackson, Missouri, was among 32 students recently inducted into the Delta of Missouri Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. Jordan is the daughter of Dewayne and Carolyn Whitener of Jackson, Missouri.

The Truman State University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa received its national charter January 2001. Truman is one of only four campuses in the state to receive a Phi Beta Kappa charter.

Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest undergraduate academic honor society in the liberal arts and sciences. It was founded in 1776 at the College of William and Mary. Currently chapters exist at 283 institutions of higher learning throughout the United States.

Truman State University, founded in 1867, is Missouri's only highly selective public liberal arts and sciences university. Truman has the highest overall graduation rate among all the public universities in Missouri as calculated by Missouri's Coordinating Board of Higher Education. More than 50 percent of Truman's graduates pursue an advanced degree immediately upon receiving the bachelor's. Truman enrolls approximately 6,000 students.
