What is the most important issue facing the Delta School Board? What can be done about it?

Two issues will take priority during the next few years. The adoption of Common Core Standards will be a big challenge. The issue of school security and safety cannot be overlooked. Even though many of the school incidents we read about happen many miles away, no school is safe from such incidents. This must be taken seriously and action taken to ensure our schools are safe and secure.

What in your background or education makes you qualified for this office?

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management. My background includes working with several youth league softball and basketball teams and the Delta Booster Club while supporting my children growing up. I recognize the need for strong leadership and parental support and guidance. I have served on the Delta School Board for the last 9 years.

Where do you stand on the issue of Common Core standards?

The Common Core Standards are fundamentally flawed, both in concept and implementation. I beleive the state of Missouri should opt out of Common Core if it can do so without significantly changing financial support for public schools. However, if Missouri does not opt out, we will have no choice but to implement the plan. We will have to do the best we can to prepare our children to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Do you think the Delta School District is a good place for teachers to work? Why or why not?

The Delta School District supports teachers by providing support for attending professional development meetings, coaching clinics, and reimbursement of continuing education while working towards a Masters Degree.
