Girl Scout Program Property For Sale

GIRL SCOUT PROGRAM PROPERTY FOR SALE

SACAJAWEA EAST-CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY

Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland (GSMH) is selling its Sacajawea East Program Center located in Cape Girardeau County. The property will be listed for sale on March 23, 2014 by Thomas M. Meyer, who will be marketing the property on GSMH's behalf.

Beginning in the spring of 2011, GSMH assigned a committee to examine the property needs of our membership, the community, and the council. Currently GSMH has five operational service centers and ten program properties. After much research, many surveys, and volunteer feedback sessions, the committee sent a proposal regarding the program properties to the GSMH Board of Directors for further discussion and a final vote. At the June 14, 2013 Board of Directors meeting, the Board voted to allow volunteer/community groups the opportunity to develop and submit sustainable, viable long-term plans for supporting Girl Scouting including retaining and maintaining GSMH program properties that were recommended for divestment. On November 15, 2013 the board voted to move forward with the property committee recommendation for divestment of Sacajawea East Program Center as no volunteer proposal was submitted. "The decision to sell this property was not made lightly," said Chief Executive Officer Anne Soots. "We will continue to ensure that as many girls as possible have access and opportunity to build friendships and learn leadership skills in the great outdoors."
