Jensen on climate change

The insipid drivel presented in Mike Jensen's column "The folly of global warming (or climate change)" demands a response. After the obligatory, inane "Hey, it's cold! Where's my global warming?" remark, Jensen suggests Secretary of State Kerry must be drunk or stupid to suggest climate change is a national security threat.

If Kerry's view implies impairment, who else falls into Jensen's "drunk or stupid" category? The Department of Defense, the Center for Naval Analysis, the Strategic Studies Institute (part of the War College), the Center for New American Security, the Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Council on Foreign Relations share Kerry's view. Specific individuals within the defense establishment who share this view look to: Secretaries of Defense Hagel ("adds to the challenges of global instability"), Panetta ("dramatic impact on national security") and Gates ("produce new sources of deprivation, rage and instability"); Generals Sullivan ("lead to instability in geopolitics"), Zinni USMC ("It's not hard to make the connection between climate change and instability, or climate change and terrorism"); Admirals Gunn ("a clear and present danger to the United states") and Lopez ("will provide the conditions that will extend the war on terror"). These are just a few of the defense professionals who share Kerry's "insulting" point of view.

Mr. Jensen is free to insult whoever he wishes, and to express whatever opinions he has. But be clear about your insults. A man of integrity either owns up to his insults or he retracts them.
