Congratulations to chamber award winners

A longtime Cape Girardeau resident and community leader, a local pharmacy and banking executive were recognized Jan. 31 at the annual banquet for the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce.

Businessman Jim Maurer received the Rush H. Limbaugh Award. Maurer is a board member for PAJCO, the Rhodes 101 Stops holding company. Maurer has been an active member of the community and his church, serving on the Southeast Missouri State University Foundation Board and Old Town Cape.

The Broadway Prescription Shop was named the Small Business of the Year. The pharmacy was started in 1932, and current owners Lee Schlitt and Kevin Wood bought the business in 2011. The award is bestowed on a business with at least 51 percent local ownership, has been in business for a minimum of five years and employs 50 employees or fewer.

Jeanne Muckerman, a senior mortgage consultant at Banterra Bank, was recognized with the Ambassador of the Year award. This award recognizes membership recruitment by a volunteer chamber ambassador and their attendance at chamber events.

Thomas M. Meyer with Exit Realty-Thomas Meyer Associates was recognized for his service as outgoing chairman of the board.
