Jackson chamber honors businesses, individuals

The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its annual banquet, where more than 400 gathered to eat, network and celebrate businesses and individuals who were honored by the organization.

Dr. Dwight Johnson won the R.A. Fulenwider Meritorious Community Service Award. Johnson has been involved in many, many organizations, from youth sports to medical and community organizations. Johnson opened his dental practice in 1974.

Liberty Utilities won the Industry of the Year award; Kimbeland Country Club was awarded Business of the Year; and Kelly Waller of American Family Insurance was honored with the Small Business of the Year award.

One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer, minister at Emanuel United Church of Christ. Roethemeyer has long been involved in the community beyond the church walls, including his involvement with the chamber. The Ambassador of the Year award will be named in his honor going forward. Kevin Schaper of Withers Broadcasting was the recipient.

We'd like to congratulate all the award winners at the chamber of commerce and for all of those who helped organize the event. The Jackson area is fortunate to have such a strong chamber with businesses who value relationships and the sense of community.
