Plenty of college, high school basketball to watch

After a good start to the season, the Southeast Missouri State men's basketball team lost its second conference game Saturday night 80-74 to Austin Peay.

Despite the slow start in the conference schedule, the Redhawks have shown promise this season. There was the dramatic win in an overtime game against IUPUI. When facing nationally ranked Memphis, the Redhawks hung tough in a 77-65 loss.

The team will be home Thursday night to face Belmont, another conference opponent. The game starts at 7 p.m. at the Show Me Center.

The Southeast women's basketball team went into Monday's night's contest at Murray State looking for conference win No. 2.

The team picked up its first conference victory Saturday night over Austin Peay. The next home contest will be Saturday when Tennessee State visits for a 3 p.m. game.

The Show Me Center will host "The Battle for Braggin' Rights 2014" on Jan. 15. Oran and Bernie will tip-off at 6 p.m., followed by Charleston and Sikeston at 7:30 p.m. Ticket information is available at showmecenter.biz or you can call the box office at 651-5000.

If you enjoy good basketball, we hope you'll consider coming out to some of the upcoming games at the Show Me Center.

For Southeast, the conference schedule is important. Having a strong fan base to cheer the Redhawks on will be key. For the high school teams, playing on the Show Me Center court is a memorable experience. A large crowd would make it even better.
