Arts Council to recognize local contributions to arts community

Tonight, several individuals' contributions to the local arts community will be recognized as the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri holds its annual Dingeldein Gala.

Named after a longtime contributor to the arts and founder of the arts council, the Otto F. Dingeldein Award was started in 1975 and recognizes living individuals who have made a difference in the arts community.

Nominees for the 2014 award include:

* Don Greenwood, a visual artist and illustrator. Greenwood is a charter member of the local Visual Arts Cooperative.

* Brenda Seyer, a retired schoolteacher, artist and private art instructor. Seyer was the recipient of the 2013 Teacher of the Year honors from the American Legion.

* Tom Neumeyer, a photographer who operates a local photography business and charter member of the Visual Arts Cooperative. Neumeyer compiled a book comparing Cape Girardeau's present with the past.

The Cape Girardeau location of Major Brands will be recognized at the event with the Friend of the Arts Award, which was established in 2002 to recognize an individual or organization for volunteer service or donations.

The gala will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Oliver-Leming House. Shuttle service will be provided from the Centenary United Methodist Church parking lot.

Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door.
