Recently, the 3rd grade class at Oak Ridge Elementary School took part in the American Red Cross Pillowcase Project.

The program emphasizes the importance of developing an emergency communications plan, fire evacuation plan and emergency contact cards.

The program also teaches students how to create their own emergency supplies kits by packing essential items in a pillowcase--a common household item--for easy transport during an emergency. Students were each given a pillowcase to decorate and some supplies to start their emergency supply kit.
