East Perry Community Fair Revises Schedule

As usual the "Best Little Fair in the Land" in Altenburg on Friday, September 20 and Saturday, September 21 does not have a lot of changes from prior years, but fairgoers wanting the best seats for the "World Championship" jumping mules competition will need to arrive a little sooner than in past years as the event will start an hour earlier at 4:30 pm. The change will also allow the 4X4 truck pull to begin at 7:00 pm with hopes to conclude the pull by 11:00 pm. The fair will again be using an X-Factor sled from Bungart Motorsports for the truck pull like it has for its stand alone events in June and last year's fair. The same rules will be used as the June truck pull, but the number of classes will be reduced from eleven to eight due to time constraints of the fair. The two Saturday evening events draw the largest crowds of spectators which always pack the nearly 2,000 bleacher seats and the hills surrounding the arena and pull track. The draft horse and mule judging will begin at 10:00 am and it will be followed by at draft horse and mule obstacle course at 3:00 pm. In order to accommodate the changes in the schedule the saddle horse shows have been dropped from the fair this year.

The fair begins with a parade at 1:30 pm on Friday followed by the opening ceremonies. Musical entertainment for this year's fair will be provided by the popular country rock band Common Thread on Friday evening at 6:30 pm; the Backstreet Cruisers, who bring back the sounds of the 50's and 60's on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm; and the Jackson Municipal Band at 6:00 pm Saturday. Other entertainment includes a pedal tractor pull at 3:00 pm on Friday and an antique tractor pull at 5:00 pm on Friday. The last scheduled event of the fair program is the traditional awarding of attendance prizes at 8:30 pm on Saturday.

The fair offers something for everyone including rides and games for the kids, food and drink of all kinds, and commercial exhibits featuring many products and services for the farm and home. New food offerings this year include walking tacos, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, chicken on a stick, and pork kabobs. Since there are no parking or admission fees and the entertainment is free, the fair prohibits coolers and outside food and drinks from the fairgrounds and parking areas. The changes made in traffic flow and parking several years ago were very successful and will be used again this year with only minor changes. Fairgoers are asked to follow directions of the traffic officers and parking staff and abide by the one-way directional signs. All livestock trucks and trailers and pull tractors and trucks must enter the fairgrounds by way of Maple Street and Fair Road. All other fair traffic must enter by way of Poplar Street unless otherwise directed by the parking staff.

For questions regarding the fair visit the fair's Facebook page or call 573-824-5513 prior to the fair and 573-824-5827 during the fair.
