Cape County deputies, feds investigate damage to bridge

Cape Girardeau County and federal authorities are investigating a suspected explosion on a County Road 459 bridge Sunday near Oak Ridge.
Cape Girardeau County sheriff's deputies and federal agencies are investigating an apparent explosion on a bridge near Oak Ridge, Lt. David James reported Sunday.

Deputies investigating damage to the bridge on County Road 459 called in agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to help with the investigation after discovering the damage appeared to have been caused by some type of explosive device, James wrote in an email message to local media outlets.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud noise early Sunday morning, James wrote.

He asked anyone with information about the explosion to call the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department at 243-3551.

Saw damage many times like this in Iraq. That is just what we need is some idiot testing out his explosives on our local infrastructure. Hope they catch this moron very soon..

Yeah, that doesn't appear to be "just a stick" of something. Maybe a "shaped"-charge?

That bridge wasn't/isn't just some crumbling hunk of junk, I'm reasonably sure that it's quite-new, even?
