The bridges of Dennis Scivally Park

Tuesday, August 6, 2013

This pedestrian bridge at Dennis Scivally Park is seen Monday, Aug. 5, 2013 as rain falls in Cape Girardeau. The concrete bridge with stone facing was built in 1941 by Dennis M. Scivally over a tributary of Walker Branch. Scivally was the chief engineer of the Cape Special Road District. The park was named for him in 1935.

A swollen creek flows Monday under the new single-span bridge on Cape Rock Drive at Dennis Scivally Park in Cape Girardeau. The span replaces the previous two-cell box culvert structure. Traffic is being detoured around the area until the project is completed in mid-August. The project is funded through the 2008 Parks and Stormwater Tax initiative.
