Sikeston rodeo

The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, for those who aren't familiar, is a pretty big deal. This year's event, which begins Wednesday, is the 61st edition. In Sikeston, that means a weeklong celebration that includes several family-friendly activities.

The rodeo also comes with performances to kick off each night. Brantley Gilbert, Randy Houser, Gary Allan and Chris Cagle will sing, in respective order, Wednesday through Saturday.

Through Aug. 31, visitors to downtown Sikeston can view rodeo photos and learn about its history at the Sikeston Depot Museum and in storefront windows.

Whether you're a rodeo fan or just someone who likes to get out and enjoy people, the Sikeston Jaycee Rodeo is a can't-miss event. As a bonus, the Jaycees invest proceeds back into the community for youth-related activities and programs.
