Speaker Series

There's still time before Southeast Missouri State University students head back to campus, but the university already is gearing up for the school year with last month's Speaker Series announcement.

Many high-profile speakers have been on campus in recent years to talk about everything from politics and policy, to health and fitness, and sports and championship teams.

The 2013-2014 lineup of speakers includes Jillian Michaels, noted health and wellness expert and TV star; Blake Mycoskie, founder and "Chief Shoe Giver" of TOMS Shoes; Cory Booker, Newark, N.J., mayor; Nicholas Sparks, a well known author of books like "The Notebook;" and Diane Rehm, a radio talk show host.

The series begins with Michaels at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Show Me Center. The speech is called "An Evening with Jillian Michaels." Booker will deliver the keynote address for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Dinner, also held at the Show Me Center.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 26 for the Michaels and Mycoskie lectures. Others will go on sale later. The cost of admission is $10 for the Michaels, Mycoskie, Sparks and Rehm events. Tickets for Michaels, Mycoskie, Sparks will be sold though the Show Me Center box office and online at showmecenter.biz. The Rehm lecture tickets will be available for purchase via the River campus box office or online at rivercampusevents.com.

If you're interested in hearing from this year's cast of speakers, we encourage you to consider attending.
