Free Hunger Effects Talk in Jackson, Scott City

On June 27-28, an important, grant-funded, free education opportunity is being offered to the public regarding the effects of hunger and what everyone can to help in their community.

Registered dietitian, Carol Morrow, MA, RD, LD, will provide education opportunities in southeast Missouri at the Scott City Nutrition Center at 10:45 a.m. on June 27 and the Jackson Senior Citizens Center at 10:15 a.m. on June 28. Participants in the free program will learn how hunger can strike any household and how it can hurt children, families, and communities. Participants will identify ways they can take action in their community to help feed hungry children and families.

Additionally, the presentation focuses on how children can be both hungry and overweight at the same time. Participants will understand the effects of hunger and overweight on children and identify ways they can help address the problem.

"This is a very worthy and informative program in which persons from student through advanced age can become involved in their family's health and community's health, building a better future for our area," said Morrow.

As a Kids Eat Right Campaign member, Morrow was awarded one of 52 mini-grants by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.
