Bikers on the Square

The Perryville square will be closed Saturday as thousands of people meet for the first Bikers on the Square charity event.

Bikers on the Square kicks off at 9:30 a.m. in downtown Perryville and could draw up to 2,000 motorcycles, and even more people, with bikers from several states and Canada expected to attend. A parade of motorcycles at 11 a.m. will be led by Vietnam veterans, who are also serving as grand marshals of the parade.

The day's festivities continue with live entertainment [4:30 to 11:30 p.m.], food vendors, beer wagons, a bike show and more.

Proceeds from several of the events, which you can read about in a story by Keith Lewis in today's Southeast Missourian, will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the Downtown Revitalization Committee.

This looks to be a fun event benefiting a good cause, and we hope the extra foot traffic helps local businesses. It's also a good opportunity for Perryville to show off its downtown area.

There are many people in the area who enjoy weekend motorcycle rides or longer trips across the country. We hope Bikers on the Square, which combines this passion for motorcycle riding with a good cause, will attract many for a fun -- and safe -- time in Perryville.
